TRCC offers "LPN to RN" Program

Licensed Practical Nurses who are in search of their RN can now look to Tri-Rivers Career Center and Franklin University for more options—options that now include a pathway to a bachelor's degree.

This groundbreaking program is the first of its kind in the State of Ohio and possibly the country, according to Judith Higel, Tri-Rivers Adult Education Director.

A student who has completed Tri-Rivers Practical Nursing Program now has the opportunity to take eight prerequisite support courses online through Franklin University. Classes include: Learning Strategies, College Writing, Intro to Spreadsheets, Intro to Databases, General Psychology, Intro to Sociology, Environmental Science and Human Biology. Upon completion of their prerequisite support courses and one year of verifiable work experience, a student can apply for admission to the Tri-Rivers RN diploma program.

Students who have completed the Practical Nursing program and the eight prerequisite support courses will have

48 semester hours of college credit, as well as any previous college coursework, applied to Franklin University's Healthcare Management major. Students will have the opportunity to pursue this Bachelor degree before or after the completion of their RN diploma. This degree will offer these nurses the management skills needed for career development and enhancement.

The LPN to RN Program is approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing, said Higel. "The program prepares students to take the licensing examinations of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCLEX-RN) leading to the Registered Nurse (RN) designation."

The program has also received approval from the Ohio Department of Education/U.S. Department of Education and North Central Accreditation (NCA).
